Nylon filament — cost and pricing guide
FDM nylon is strong and wear-resistant but hygroscopic - drying equipment and failed-print risk belong in your price.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Material price | $35-60/kg |
| Density | 1.14 g/cm³ |
| Process | FDM 3D Printing |
| Typical uses | gears, hinges, wear parts, functional prototypes |
What drives the real part cost
Material price is only one input. The full per-part cost adds machine time at your all-in hourly rate, hands-on labor, a failure or scrap allowance, and your margin. On most Nylon filament parts, machine time and labor outweigh the material itself — which is why per-kg price comparisons alone mislead.
Pro tip
Budget a 10-15% failure allowance unless your filament drying workflow is dialed in.
